Price elasticity of demand Essay A. Price elasticity of demand (Ed) is used to determine if percent change price increases will percent change quantity demanded decease. In price elasticity of demand (Ed) there are three possible coefficient categories that can result; elastic, inelastic and unit elastic. Key components to remember when determining coefficient category, the threshold is set at one, there are only absolute values, no negative numbers, and the coefficient can only be categorized as elastic, inelastic and unit elastic. To determine if the coefficient is elastic, inelastic or unit elastic they would have the following characteristics. When price elasticity of demand (Ed) is elastic the coefficient will be greater than one (Ed 1). When a percent price change occurs quantity demanded responds strongly and there will be a large change in quantities consumers purchase. There is price sensitive in this scenario. If price elasticity of demanded (Ed) is inelastic the coefficient will be less than one (Ed 1). When a percent price change occurs quantity demanded doesnââ¬â¢t respond strongly and thereââ¬â¢s a small change in quantities consumers purchase. There a weak price sensitive in this scenario. Lastly, if price elasticity of demanded (Ed) is unit elastic the coefficient will be equal to one (Ed = 1).Whenever there is a percent change in price there is an equally matched percent change in quantity demanded. This scenario is rare. The following formula can be used to compute the coefficient before categorizing if it is elastic, inelastic or unit elastic: Ed= %âËâ Qd _______ %âËâ Price After plugging in the given particulars and computing an answer for the coefficient, one will determine if the answer is greater, less, or equal to the threshold of one. Then last step the coefficient will be categorized as elastic, inelastic or unit elastic. B. Cross price elasticity (Exy) helps determine how percent change increase of a good or service impact quantityà demanded of another good/service. In cross price elasticity (Exy) there are two possible categories that the coefficients can be placed in; substitutes and complements. Key components are as follows threshold is zero, there is a positive or negative distinction in the coefficient, and if the coefficient is equal to zero, this means there is no impact on the good or service. The goods or services are independent of each other. The elasticity of a good or service depends on how specifically defined is the product. For example the brand of eggs you buy vs. you buying eggs. In cross price elasticity (Exy) if the coefficient is a substitute good or service it would be greater than zero (Exy 0). The more X and Y sales increase together we know they are substitutes, the greater the substitutability between the two goods or services. In cross price elasticity (Exy) if the coefficient is a complimentary good or service it would be less than zero (Exy 0). X and Y ââ¬Å"go together,â⬠increase in price of one of the goods/services decrease the demand of the other, they are complementary goods/services. The larger the negative coefficient, the greater the complementary between the two goods or services. The following formula can be used to compute the coefficient before determining if itââ¬â¢s a substitute or complimentary good/service. There are two income categories; normal goods, which are also referred to as superior, and other category is inferior good. Two key components to remember are the threshold is set at zero and there is either a positive or negative distinction in the coefficient. In income elasticity (Ei) to determine if the coefficient is normal (superior) good the threshold would be greater than zero (Ei 0). When income rises so does the demand for normal (superior) goods. But also if there is a recession normal (superior) goods are usually hit hardest.

As we reel once again from the terrible thought that an innocent life has been taken and it was a child who pulled the trigger, we should be vigilant for the next event, which is becoming equally predictableâ⬠¦ As public health professionals, we are trained to ask important questions so we can treat both the symptoms and root causes of a sickness. We will give a child medicine for a fever, but also antibiotics for the microorganism causing the illness. The question to ask when diagnosing this tragedy is a simple one: Where did a seven-year-old boy get a loaded gun? (ââ¬Å"Physiciansâ⬠) Many physicians feel that they do not have a direct influence on preventing violence. Yet, as patient advocates, it is often physicians who have the best opportunity to intercede on the behalf of patients in potentially violent circumstances. Numerous paradigms of violence exist, and it may be difficult for the physician to cover the range of issues productively and efficiently in a single visit. Instead, the physician may wish to confront these topics over a series of visits to best assess the patientââ¬â¢s willingness to discuss these issues and act in the recommended manner. This paper serves not only to bring to light issues of violence with which a physician may be presented, but also provides a model for discussing these issues with patients to best provide preventative techniques. New York Yankees Essay
Ever since they became an official organization in 1903, the New York Yankees have established themselves as one of the worldââ¬â¢s top sport organizations. As a Major League Baseball team, they have historically achieved the ultimate goal of winning the World Series and have gained fans and profit in the process. With thirty-one different managers, the Yankees have won a total of twenty-six World Series and have built a fan base across the globe (ââ¬Å"Newâ⬠, 2008). Nowadays, the organization even makes yearly revenue close to 300 million dollars (Cohen, 2007). I chose this organization because I believe that their structure and management style is the definition of success. I will apply most of the methods and concepts from the book and from class to the Yankees, and I will discuss why I consider them to be one of the worldââ¬â¢s greatest sport organizations today. First, when analyzing the New York Yankees from a managerial perspective, it is important to consider the structure and management style of the organization. For example, the New York Yankees have three levels of managers: the owner or executive manager who monitors the business environment (George Steinbrenner), the general manager or middle manager who negotiates and controls player transactions (Brian Cashman), and the field manager or first-line supervisor who supervises individuals within the organization (Joe Girardi). For them to be successful, all of these parts need to work together and form a systems-based organization. In this open system, where everything is ââ¬Å"relatively open to the influences of the environment in which it livesâ⬠(Chelladurai, 2005), Steinbrenner is able to react to the goals, structures, and processes of the organization, as well as employers, customers, and so forth. Even though the Yankees did not make the playoffs this year, it is easy to see how the system is successful. All of the managers perform certain tasks, some of which include planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating. Each of these levels do these things for different time frames. When discussing the roles of the Yankee managers, it is important to note that all of them have been successful. Brian Cashman has a large decisional role because he has to make the correct decisions for the fans to be content and the team to win. Back when the Yankees won several consecutive championships in the ââ¬Ë90s, Joe Torre (field manager) was a leader of the team with excellent human skills. He was able to interact with his players in a way that allowed them to perform at or above their potential, and he also had an incredible amount of knowledge for the types of players he needed to succeed. The owner and general manager had good technical and conceptual skills because it was important that they plan, evaluate, and organize the formation of a successful organization. They had to evaluate the existing organization, plan what players to trade for, and organize the business matters. I know that the organizationââ¬â¢s main goal is to win national championships, but they also want to be effective and efficient in doing so. When the owner George Steinbrenner goes out and gets all-star caliber players to win the American League East division and the World Series, he has to pay a lot of money in order to attract them to his team. In terms of being a successful leader, it is obvious that George Steinbrenner ââ¬Å"exerts influence in a way that achieves the organizationââ¬â¢s goals by enhancing the productivity and satisfaction of the work forceâ⬠(Chelladurai, 2005) because he is trying to achieve his goals by getting the best players in the league and making his team more productive. It has been known that George Steinbrenner spends the most money on his players in the league, so the efficiency of the team is minimized even though they have the largest fan base out of any organization. The effectiveness, however, in drawing the support of fans, emotionally and economically, is maximized, since the people want to see the best teams with the best athletes play. In 2004, ââ¬Å"by the completion of the season, which saw Joe Torre at its helm for his ninth season, the New York Yankees had set a new team record for largest team attendance thanks to 3,775,292 loyal fans who attended home games at Yankee Stadiumâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Newâ⬠, 2008). You can see here how popular the organization has become, and I can only imagine how much more money it can make in the future. In conclusion, I have analyzed an organization that I felt would help me understand the concepts and methods that are associated with sport management. Based on the structure and personnel of the New York Yankees baseball club now and in the past, I classify it as being one of the worldââ¬â¢s most successful organizations. This statement can only be judged by the results that have accompanied the Yankees ever since its inception, twenty-six championships and a world-wide fan base.

Ethnicity is defined as the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition. While this definition suggests a black and white concept, ethnicity is often complex and misunderstood due to the breadth of the topic. Frequently in society, young people inherit their ethnic identity at birth based on the culture they are born into. However, during puberty they often begin to doubt/explore their identity and strive to discover what ethnic group they belong in and not just the one they were assigned. The staff will assure her that her baby Katherine will be taken care individually, as she is too young to be detached from her mother a whole day. Initially, the care worker will encourage Amanda about the open door policy and ensure that she can pop in throughout the day or by phone. She would be shown that how the care environment will prioritize Katherines likes and dislikes by providing story books and objects that can be put inside one another. Amanda will be supported for breast-feeding by suggesting her to pump breast milk into a feeding bottle and give it to the care workers (Essa, 2012). She would be ensured that Katherine would be placed on lap and the care worker will feed her the stored breast milk, while singing the song ten teddy bears during her naptime. b) It will be good, if Amanda bring Katherine at least 2-3 weeks prior to her enrolment. It will help her to adapt in the new environment. Amanda can stay with her at the time for few hours; it will help to find the place familiar. Katherine can be encouraged to play with others in 0-2 years room. While playing, her brother Joel can join her and show her playing with friends is good. Then, she would be shifted to reading room and her favorite storybooks will be provided. These strategies support the National Quality standards including the 5th and 6th standards, Relationships with children and collaborative partnerships with families and communities. c) To establish a nurturing relationship with Katherine, the care worker needs to prioritize Katherines physical and emotional needs, to create feelings of trust and security. From the very first day, Katherine will be encouraged to play with other children and adapt the care routines. Katherine will be provided with an extra spoon during mealtime, to continue her habit. Her breakfast will include her favorite fruits. During play time, her favorite songs like ten teddy bears and round and round the garden will be played for giving her a homely feelings. A kitchen play can be set on a small table, where she can explore her likings. Group activities can be arranged including, fitting objects into each other, which is her favorite game. These menu plans support their dietary needs for healthy growth. Standard 2.2.1 depicts that healthy eating is promoted and food and drinks provided by the service are nutritious and appropriate for each child. The menu plan complied the national dietary checklist for children, thereby supporting the above standard. Providing Support to Families and Children to Promote Healthy Drinking and Eating a) Joel prefers sweet drinks, chocolate and snacks. These foods usually have significant negative impact upon the dental and general health of Joel. Joel can have dental cavity due to tooth decay. Tooth enamel can be damaged. In case of general health, he can suffer from obesity, which is one of the most prevalent children health issue in Australia. It enhances the risk of a number of diseases (Wong, Sumsion Press, 2012). b) A health promotion can be arranged for Joel and Amanda, where some play like The Hero Food Movement can be done. Here, Amanda can be asked what do your hero eats? Based on Amandas answer, the heros ability and the food they eat can be linked. Such as, Superman has x-ray vision, carrot is good for vision. Superman must eat carrot! Whoever wants to be superman should eat carrot. Another strategy is involving children in preparing healthy food. An award system is encouraging for having balanced diet at home and less snacks and chocolate. A hero sticker can be offered to consume less chocolate. c) The Australian Early Childhood Code of Ethics helps to ensure the delivery of safe and healthy practice to the children in long day care centers. In relation to the children like Joel and Katherine, the codes, 1.1 act in best interest of the child and 1.6 create and maintain safe, healthy environment, create spaces and places, which enhance childrens learning, development, engagement, initiative, dignity, self-worth and show respect for their contributors are helpful. On the other hand, in relation to the parents like Amanda, the codes 2.4 develop partnerships with families and engage in shared decision making where appropriate and 2.9 be sensitive to the vulnerabilities of children and families and respond in ways that empower and maintain the dignity of all children and families are helpful (Logan, Press Sumsion, 2012). Preparing Joel for Going to Hospital Joel is a charming young boy, who loves to play with his friend in the day care home. He also loves to play with construction equipments and train track. Now, while preparing him for his hospital stay, he needs support for retaining his confidence level and reducing his fear of hospital stay. In this context, his mother Amanda has a major role. Thus, the day care staffs must involve his mother for his preparation of hospital stay. As he is only 4 years old, the care workers and family members should let him know about the hospital stay before a couple of days. His mother Amanda needs to be present, while telling about the hospital stay to Joel. A story can be developed and told to him by his mother and care workers that, he is going for a campaign, where a play is going on named how strong are you? Here, the child who will show the signs of fitness will get a reward. Thus, he needs to go to hospital and stay for some days, where he would undergo a little operation, about which his mo ther has already discussed. If he looks upset, to motivate him, again the example of heroes can be given, like, Amanda! Your hero looks upset! Nevertheless, heroes never lose their hope and confidence! To be like superman, you should have good listening power Joel! To reduce her stress, the care workers can provide an environment related to hospital. The care workers can dress up like doctors and nurses and his room can be decorated as a hospital room. He will be encouraged to tell about his fear. The playful environment in the care home, which looks like a hospital, would enhance his confidence (Logan, Press Sumsion, 2012). Safe Collection of Child a) According to the national regulations of early education and care, a child must be released from a day care, once the identity of the person is verified; who have came to take the child from day care centre. Therefore, Pam will be requested to show her photo identity card and her I card will be verified with the childrens register, where Pam has enrolled as an authorized person to collect children. After verifying, Amanda will be informed over phone and a confirmation from her will be collected, then only the children would be handed over to Pam (Essa, 2012). Till then, she have to wait at waiting room. Before discharge, she would have to sign in the collection registered. b) According to national Law, section 165, 167 and National regulation 99, 158-159 and 176, A parent or authorized nominee collects the child, a parent or authorized nominee provided written authorization for the child to leave the premises (Essa, 2012).
