A Comparison of the Portrayal of Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird :: English Literature

A Comparison of the portrayal of Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird and Miss Havisham in great expectations. In To Kill a Mockingbird the author uses a retrospective narration, this means that we can see events through the eye of a child, yetalso has the intelligence of an adult to explain the eventsthouroghly. Because narrator has somebodyal experience of what happenedwe have a closer insight into the details. This method of aspectmeans that we can understand other characters feelings more easily, and the settings and ways of Maycomb. Great Expectations is similarto To Kill a Mockingbird it also has institutes the events of a personfrom childhood to becoming an adult. The bosh follows Pip, who is themain character in this novel it shows him as a child, beingintroduced to Miss Havisham, then later on as a main person in MissHavishams life. Pip and Scout help us to understand the feelings ofother characters..To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930s, in a townsfolk called Maycomb.I t is a small town with a close-knit alliance, it has a deserted feelto it, however it is very tense, with a lot of families and rumoursand gossip. Maycomb is also a claustrophobic place to be, with theidentical houses, the grass on the sidewalks (unkempt), and also it isvery dusty, hot and humid. The neighbours are known to be verysuspicious and judgemental. It is a reserved community and it can getvery dull. In Great Expectations, in the chapters that we have read, rather then it being concentrated on a town, it is mostly concentratedon Miss Havishams House. Satis House, which stand for very big andsatisfactory. Within this house everything is kept the way it was atthe time of the wedding. With cobwebs, and dust on all the furniture.Even the environ of the satis house was dying there was a largebrewery, no brewing was going on in it, this shows that everythingaround miss Havisham was a symbol of what was indoors her. It showsthat she is dead within. Both Boo Radley and Miss Havis ham live inseclusion, this means they prefer to be cut off from the outsideworld, a quote that show this is some of the windows had been walledup However they both have someone to help them with life, Boo Radleyhas his brother Nathan, and Miss Havisham has her adopted daughterEstella. Miss Havisham acts this way because of what happened to her in the beginning in her life she was left at the altar.

The Tension between Beauty and Virtue in Shakespeares Sonnet 95 Essay

The emphasis between Beauty and Virtue in Shakespeares Sonnet 95 Sonnet 95 of Shakespeares sandy early man sonnets depicts a tension-filled variation on the standard blazon. The poet seems torn between the bewilder (1) that taints his dependant and the amiables (4) of the subject s beauty. The initial imagery of a pest (2) within a rose (2) serves to set up the cozy overtones that dominate the poem, as well as to create the feel of strain between chiding and attraction that heightens throughout each quatrain. Shakespeare develops this imagery to ensnare the subject in an increasingly agitated opposition between his fleshly beauty and his behavioral repulsiveness. though the poet claims that he cannot dispraise but in a resistant of praise (7), the closing couplet goes counter this, bringing the sense of antagonism between the poet s astonishment and his disapproval full circle. The couplet serves as a ensample that the physical beauty and virility that h ave dominated the raw man s life leave end, destroying the mansion (9) where he hid his clean failing through the quatrains. The chess opening quatrain of Sonnet 95 serves to expose the contrast between the young man s physical and moral states. This quatrain, despite permitting the young man s beauty (3) to dominate the sense of his sins (4), also begins to assert the idea that he will suffer for his vice. The opening image of How sweet and lovely (1) dominates the completion of the thought dost thou make the shame (1) through both rhythm and diction. While Shakespeare sets the opening in perfect iambic rhythm, the interjection of a pyrrhic foot to begin the statement of the young man s shame (1) weakens the idea, allo... ...s to force the idea that there is a danger in the antecedently stated opposition. However, the phallic imagery of the large privilege (11) of which the young man should be aware helps to complete the poem s consideration of physical beauty i n place of virtue by drawing the poem gumption to the sexual overtones set up in the beginning. The warning that the hardest knife ill-used doth lose his bank (12) forces the idea that age leads to physical impotence, thereby leaving physical beauty the transient domain of the young, and virtue the permanent domain of all. Split Sisters and Split Personalities of Goblin Market Essay -- Goblin

Split Sisters and Split Personalities of Goblin Market I have 50 different personalities, and still Im l one and only(a)ly (Amos). Perhaps everyone is truly composed of multiple personalities embodied within one whole. Whether these split personalities are actual or purely metaphorical, no one human being has a single sided mind, and a single sided position on everything. Within the brain many battles are raged amid opposing sides of issues, between the personalities. Goblin Market is one of Christina Rosettis sister poems, a form in which she used sisters to represent different aspects of the split personality that was caused by opposed attitudes and mixed emotions towards love (Bellas 66). The 2 opposing young sides of a single persons brain are separated into two different beings, two sisters. During the poem, the two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, contrast and become contrasting opinions and factions on love, femininity, and sensuality, eventually maturing and reconciling their conflicting beliefs into a mutual ground. Lauras love of the fruit is insatiable (Mayberry 90). Lizzie is a more Victorian image of love cautious, timid, and tedious (Mayberry 43). In the Victorian days respectable women were expected to be good Christian women. Rossetti is a evidence of these expectations. In reference to the awkward moral at the end of the poem Martine Brownley says. Undoubtedly that was the only way that the quiet devoted recluse could tolerate what she had procured in the poem. The woman who pasted pieces of paper over the more explicit lines in Swinburnes poetry could never have faced the actual implications of the stunningly good parable which somehow welled up from her unconscious self ... ...look for the first time in her life. The Victorian element of the 1800s has been brought down to a more reasonable take aim through Lizzie. The wild feminist in Laura has been tamed by the life threatening experience and the overpowering devotion of her sister. Wor ks Cited Amos, Tori. Tori Amos in Conversation. Baktabak Recordings 1997. American Views Before and After World War II

America is well-know for its wealth and independence. Proud Americans come together to fight for republic and freedom, while fighting against extremists and their desire for world conquest. War stories usually favor the victor. As a result, after World War II, many of the stories that began to circulate added to an already inflated US ego. After World War II, depending upon the country, the impressions of Americans are diverse. On one hand, Americans were saviors however, the other hand, many were offended because of Americas tentativeness to join the war efforts, positivistic the overconfidence Americans displayed with they eventually joined the war. Although, the US declared themselves as isolationists, they continued to provide defense supplies to the Allied states. These defense supplies came by way of Roosevelts lend-lease program. This program contributed to Allies collaborative efforts to resist German advancements. The Axis powers took considerable offense to this policy, w hich resulted in hostility towards the US.By the time, the US officially entered the war a devastated, Nazi-occupied europium was struggling for survival. The wealth gained from Lend-Lease resulted in a secure and confident economy for the US. This great wealth, massive military, and Americas ability to harness atomic power, added to the audacity to use that power, were the factors that elevated the US into superpowerdom. Although, the economy was not the only reason for Americas ascent to become a superpower, it was also the have efforts of the American citizens to support the war effort, which attributed to their elevated status. However, according to Stoler, most Americans did not attribute the end of World War II to combined efforts they perceived it as a return to normalcy (p. 385). Stoler continued his opinion by stating that both Britain and the Soviet Union were slightly aggravated and annoyed at the US for assuming the superior status at the end of World War II (p. 388). Americans believed their arrival secured the defeat over Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire. However, Britain and the Soviet Unions opinions differ slightly regarding the US.According to Stoler, the British considered Americans latecomers to the war and felt abandoned during the first two years (p. 388). When the US finally decided to join the war, they entered with the naive, arrogant, and wrong(p) smell that they should dictate both combined wartime strategy and a new, self-serving postwar international order (p. 388). From the Soviets point of view, Americas consumption was relatively insignificant as compared to the Soviet role plus, the US deliberately procrastinated entering the war with the intention to exploit the Soviet Union by apply the Lend-Lease program (Stoler p.388). Memory serves as an important element during war-time. Many people consider memories of specific events irrelevant. These recollections of selectively retrieved events can possibility deliver incor rect details of said events. Earl Kelly with the McClatchy-Tribune Business News even quoted Carol Gluck while speaking at the 31st annual Bancroft Lecture at the Naval Academy, annals and memory are often in collision, rather than collusion, with each other (2010).Even the most overrated misconceptions of World War II were sometimes included into movies. Often, the US political science embedded them selves into the movie industry. The reason being was to process Americans on the importance of entering the war by means of propaganda. Worland states, that the Office of War Information stirred most popular war-time films especially films that depicting the armed forces, images of America as a united, democratic society, the ideology of the Axis enemy, and so on (p.48). This governmental influence pushed Americans to support the war effort. The U. S. brought to the war added military, supplies, and ideas for the Allies. While the US may have been imprudent and arrogant in their atte mpt to assume control, but the U. S. did bring alternating(a) solutions to the table. To some countries, Americans are egotistical and lazy. Fortunately, Americas pompous attitudes gave the added incentive and strength to the Allied powers that helped end the war. Belonging Term Paper Essay

Belonging is just as much about elision as it is about fitting in. Belonging is a concept wholly linked to the godliness and companionable connections one exercises. These factors foster the sentiments of alienation and acceptance indeed screening how belonging is just as much about exclusion than fitting in. It is these factors that derive ones belonging in society and hence whatever are excluded naturally. This collated idea is portrayed in Raimond Gaitas memoir Romulus my have which is supported by George orwells 1984. Both texts emphasise the conundrum of belonging and how exclusion can be present with belonging as well as having the ability to fit in. Gaita expresses the irony of belonging in his memoir Romulus my father exposing how piety has an influencing factor in ones belonging. Furthermore, Romulus nationalism for Romania is significant for his lack of belonging for his environment expressed through the line, He longed for generous and soft European foliage, but th e eucalypts of Baringhup, scraggy seemed symbols of deprivation and barreness. The lexical change present emphasises Romulus alienation as it detracts from the positives of his new nation. This notion is and supported by his underlying liking to always consider himself Romanian. The morality of his nationalism therefore causes him to not belong and hence proves how belonging is just as much about exclusion as it is about fitting in. Gaita evidently comments on how belonging of an individual is influenced by their morality and hence showing how exclusion can be a yield from morality therefore showing how exclusion is a part of belonging. Similarly orwells 1984 conveys the message of how exclusion is a large part of understanding belonging. This is more often than not illustrated by the characterisation of the recall dose, Winston, and his alter ego, Julia.Winstons morality for the freedom of individuals is portrayed in the first chapter, shaped by the repetitious diary entries of down with ample brother. In a society where the population admire and follow the government with every instruction, the morality of the protagonist defines him from the masses and hence he does not belong. This insularity of morality is present in the line, Winston turned his back to the telescreen, the first inkling that he is trying to reduce the power that the government has over him. This notion is kick upstairs emphasised through the metaphor He felt as though he were wandering in the forests of the sea bottom lost in a monstrous adult male where he himself was the monster. The metaphor alludes to how he is trapped between the Partys nonsense principles and his own perception of reality, and ergo Winston experiences a metaphysical crisis that ultimately leads to his demise. Hence the protagonists exclusion, is what creates his belonging to the cause for freedom and ergo proving how exclusion is a large a component of belonging because morality is different between individua ls. In addition, Romulus my father conveys how social connections can affect belonging of one, hence excluding as much as integrating belonging. This idea is mainly expressed through the polarised life of Romulus and Christine. Christine does not belong throughout the memoir due to her minimal social affiliations she has. As a result it leads to depression being described as She was obviously and deeply depressed.Desperately lonely, she was glad of any conversation that came her way. The emotive language of the extent of her depression emphasises how relationships are needed to get a sense of belonging which mirrors the basic philosophies of Martin Bruber and Maslow, where relationships are needed to prosper. Furthermore, while Romulus taught Raimond the value of morals Hora taught him how to express and think. Raimonds philosophical view on the world stems to this pivotal relationship with Hora, taking on a parental role while Romulus was in hospital following the motor bike acc ident, giving Raimond a sense of belonging. The parental role Hora plays creates an affectionate belonging for Romulus, as supported by the line It was the only time I remember when my love for Hora and my father caused confused emotions in me towards either. These social interactions in the memoir evidently affect the belonging of few characters causing them to either belong or not belong. Orwells 1984 describes how relationships affect ones belonging, hence excluding individuals. These relationships throughout the novel are limited because of restrictions and hence relationships are bland and isolate many. The protagonists social affiliations are fake with a subtle desire for authenticity which lead to his autodidact personality, excluding him from society. This concern is supported by the philosophy associated with relationships from the dystopia as you dont ease off a damn if they suffer. All you care about is yourself. This narcissistic attitude mirrors the idea that the lack of relationships leads to many not belonging together. This issue is supported further by the conceptual hour of hate. The alliteration of the ritual and repetition in the novel emphasise the harsh nature of relationships based on hate and hence excluding Winston from belonging in the dystopia. It also acts as a motif to emphasise the break down of humanity and empathy in the novel. This notion of non belonging is introduced in the arising of the novel as well through the sarcastic tone of from the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of big brother, where from the age of is repeated to portray the loneliness of the protagonist and how conformity is present throughout society. Therefore it is clear that orwell, expresses how belonging is just as much about exclusion as it is about fitting in.

Nursing ADN vs BSN Essay

If you would reserve asked me a year ago if there was a difference in the competency level among a suck who has their associate degree and a nurse that has their baccalaureate degree I would have said, No. That answer would non have been an fair one, but rather an answer born from frustration. When I was in my first year of nursing school, our instructors informed us that all across the nation attractive force hospitals were pledging that they were only going to hire entry-level nurses who had their baccalaureate degree moving forward. That news was discouraging because I had just changed careers and was considered lucky to be in a cardinal year associates degree program, especially since nursing schools everywhere were saturated with applicants. I did not expect to come out of school and have to jump office in to a BSN program to keep myself marketable. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing states that Quality patient care hinges on having a well-educated nursing wor kforce. (Rosseter, 2012, p. 1) straightaway as I look back at my three years of nursing experience, I must admit that a higher education in nursing would improvement not only my ability to find and keep a job, become a platform to continue my education but too it go out benefit the way I approach planning for my patients care. I now feel that a higher education level brings with it the ability to not only understand how a patient came to be under my care, but also why.If a patient comes to my hospital with a wound to his leg and that homogeneous patient has diabetes, as a nurse with an ADN degree, I may be inclined to dress the wound as reproducible and treat the diabetes as ordered without thought to why or how this happened. With a higher degree in nursing practice, I will not only have a remedy mind of how to help the wound heal quickly and properly ccompanied with the proper tools, but I will also have a let on understanding of the patients underlying diagnosis of diabe tes and how I can help the patient understand what type of care will be given at the hospital in addition to accessed care out in society to ensure that this particular problem will not arise again. I, most likely will have a better understanding of outside resources that I can pass on to the patient before discharge so that he may better manage his overall health at home.I will hopefully be able to instill in this patient the need to educate himself on his disease so that the visits to the hospital are infrequent. The higher the education level, the more confident the nursing diagnoses are. In other words, as a nurse with a baccalaureate degree, I feel I will know how to articulate in a more productive way to ensure that the patient gets the go around explanation of what interventions are being performed and why. With a higher education, I should feel more confident in my abilities to perform any and all tasks needed on a daily basis to help my patients.I am very fortunate to have nurses in my work place that value education and telephone along the same lines as Grand Canyon University when it stated in its Nursing Philosophy, Students are educated to provide, direct and evaluate client-centered care while counsel on the person as an integrated whole. (Grand Canyon University GCU, 2011, 9). One huge advantage to becoming a highly educated nurse is that I will feel more comfortable when speaking to multidisciplinary teams about patient care. Most colleagues that we come in contact with during these meetings are educated at the masters degree of higher level. (Rosseter, 2012, p. 2) Some examples are case managers, social workers, speech pathologists and pharmacists to name a few. I am currently a charge nurse on the diabetic floor of my hospital and I work with these people every Tuesday to discuss patient flow. I can see the level of self- authorisation they have in their roles having been educated at a higher level than myself and I cannot wait until I c an feel that same level of effrontery as my co-workers.In conclusion, those of us that are continuing our education should encourage other nurses to advance their careers and education level as well. We all can benefit from higher education and many studies have been done to prove this theory. It makes sense that if we are left in charge of a patients well-being, we should know, with confidence that we are doing our job to the best of our ability. One thing that is constant in nursing is change and the way to keep up with change is through keep education.

Characteristics of Maggie and Don in the Rainbow Bird Essay

Maggie is a disposition-lover & fascinated by nature. Instead of paying attention in class, Maggies mind had been make full with a vision of the birdwatch. This clearly shows that she is so enthralled by the rainbow bird that she cannot concentrate in class. From what her mother said, Its a bird now, I can infer that she may have other interests before. In school, she carried beetles wings and cowries about in her desk to stare at and this shows that she is a person who loves nature. Her love for nature is also evident in the way she reacts when she finds out that the Honey Man killed the rainbow bird and its family. Her anger and sorrow reveal how much the bird means to her.She is secretive, loner and is misunderstood by others. Maggie refuses to let her friends know about her secret about the rainbow bird. She is afraid that if they find out about the rainbow bird, they get out start teasing and devising fun of her.Maggie is very emotional, sensitive and revengeful. Upon hea ring about the rainbow birds death, Maggie lets herself get worked up and started to curse the Honey Man. This is evident in He will die. I know he will.. Serve him right, too She hates the Honey Man so much that she describes him as a devil and a beast and wished that ramous lightning would leaped out of the sky and char him to ashes. This clearly shows that Maggie holds a grudge against the Honey Man and is revengeful.Maggie immediately questioned the Honey Man, Whatre you doing with that gun? This shows that Maggie is very straightforward and savage because she did not greet the Honey Man when she saw him.Immediately after school, Maggie raced down constantly urging don to hurry up. This shows that she is anxious to meet the rainbow bird and impatient. She told Don to chuck the bird away and Don obeyed her. Maggie was able to make Don listen to her and able to control Don.Maggie could identify that it was Cafferty the Honey Man who was the big, unfairness figure on the slope. She could see a lump in his pocket. Maggie watched the Honey Mans every move and is therefore observant. Even though the rainbow bird is dead, Maggie is still hating the Honey Man that he killed the bird. She also thought that the people were burying the rainbow bird. This shows that she is unrealistic and was still thinking about the rainbow bird.Maggie is imaginative. Although the rainbow bird is dead, Maggie is act to imagine the rainbow bird and thought that the people were burying the rainbow bird. This shows that Maggie is very imaginative.Upon hearing that the Honey Man is charging six-pence for every rainbow bird, Don planned to go track down for rainbow birds with other boys. He was not on his sisters side and wanted to kill the rainbow birds for money. This shows that Don is greedy.Don obeyed his sister and chuck the rainbow bird away. Don wanted to feel if there were any little ones in the nest without considering that the mother bird would go away. He did not know tha t there was person near the nest and was about to go on but Maggie stopped him. This clearly shows that he is rash, and do things without thinking.Even though the rainbow is dead, Don pretended he did not care and did not console his sister. He did not feel sad when the rainbow bird is dead. This shows that he is unfeeling and cruel.

Have people become overly dependently on technology Essay

A lot of people will deny the fact that technology isnt a expectency. Technology realistically is something our times believes we cannot live with disclose. Even though technology benefits our lives greatly, sometimes its too much. Technology governs us from the moment we wake up, with an alarm, to the moment we want to lay down and relax, with some television. For example the moments I have forgotten my phone at home I feel a sense of emptiness, I even feel imaginary vibrations from time to time.Read moreDependent on Technology EssayIll just Google it. I cant even begin to opine how many times Ive heard people say that phrase. Its such a whatchamacallit to type something in our phone or computer and in seconds chance the answer we were looking for. ahead you would have to true(a)ly find a library and read on the subject now its just a click away. Technology to me is like a crutch on learning. I have friends that beart even pay attention in class or do anything in enlighte n and when you ask them about home work their answer is ill just Google it when I get home. Our generation has become boring in a sense. Our idea of fun is texting, tweeting, posting and editing pictures. Very seldom do you see anyone out playing a sport or actually interacting as a group, except maybe in a club and even with that you see them detached from society and on their phone. Also, dating is done now days on a computer. I cant begin to name how many sites there are to find a partner. Good morning texts are a sign of being romantic in our generation, there is no such thing as an actual loving gesture. You dont get to know someone anymore by going out on dates or talking face to face now all the interaction is done by texting, when you actually get to see the person you read all you need to know because of the constant texting. If you pass away me and address and I dont have my cell phone with my GPS I will neer get to where I have to be. Almost no one now days can get from o ne point to the other without a GPS. Unlike our generation, my mothers generation for explain, you can nominate them an address and most of them willknow how to get to the address with no problem. They did not need to depend on technology. After my research on this topic its become very, scarcely very glide by that our generation definitely lets technology run their lives. Imagine something happens and all technology was terminated, I dont know where we would put our self with the dependency we have with our phones, computers, GPS, and televisions. Yes, technology make life easier and faster but sometimes easier and faster isnt the best thing.

Interests of Social Harmony Essay

To mention John Stuart Mill, The accomplishs of individuals should only be limited to prevent harm to other individuals.Hate speech by an individual is something that has an adverse effect on society causing mayhem and chaos. Society comprises various individuals as well as the one who gave the speech. So how does Hate Speech affect the society? It does so by harming the individuals of the society and that individual too who delivered the hate speech. I believe all of us will oppose to the fact that the makers of our piece of music were thinkers of the very highest kind. Our Constitution is an advocate of subtle restrictions on discontinue speech, and to quote it, Restrictions bed be made on turn speech, in the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, public order and morality, against condescension of court, defamation or incitement to offence If such great thinkers supported certain restrictions on free speech, what reason do we have to debate upon them?I agree with my opponents till the extent that our laws be a bit subjective in their nature. However, this is no excuse for not having them We cannot not have curbs on free speech as it will only be a recipe for perfect anarchy. Amendments in the Constitution can happen, but removal of such a pivotal restriction is too extreme and restrictive step to take. The carrying out of laws in India is a little weak, however t here(predicate) have been numerable instances in the past where the authorities have shown the laws teeth and prosecuted the guilty in acts of hate speech. cultivate the recent example of AkbaruddinOwaisi who tried to spurn sentiments of hate in the people of Andhra He has been booked by the law. The 3rd Reich under Adolf Hitler is held responsible for the initiation of the 2nd World War. But what spurned the people of Germany into action? They were the words of Adolf Hitler, whose appalling hate speech led to the most heinous of crimes in human history, the racial extermina tion and holocaust. The example of the mass exodus of North-East origin Indians living in other parts of the nation, to their hometowns is an horrible and eye opening one. The outrageous fire-like dissemination of the false alarm via the internet begs us to have curbs on free speech Take the example of the 10th article of the European Convention on kind Rights, Everyone has the right to Freedom of Expression, however, the exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society. The vilification of the freedom of expression may encroach upon the most fundamental right of all, the Right to Life Something so small like the shouting out of the word fire can cause frenzy in a cinema hall. We are talking about a democratic nation over here my friends, something much too big and much too fragile.

Personal, Organizational and Cultural Values Essay

Personal, organizational and cultural value ar common border on to understand conflict or success in today global business environment. With the increasingly globalized scrimping and climate of multicultural workforce, organizations is continuously implementing and establishing desired stub set to remain competitive. This paper will hold forth how wiz can reconcile in-person, organizational and cultural determine in global settings. Personal values develop when the case-by-case start to interact within family, school or religious organization. The followings ar considered the core private values in my life personally goals oriented, respect, caring and trustworthy. Personal values will forever be the foundation for each individual path of life. They are personal belief and philosophy for one to live by. Personal values shape our choices, impact the decision about our ability and how to treat ourselves and others. Experiences and interactions with outdoor(a) units influen ce the values the great unwashed deem important to them. Personal values become a personal direction for people on how to live their lives.Ghosh (2008) explains The individuals cognitive moral development set up determines how an individual thinks about honor fit dilemmas, his or her process of deciding what is right and wrong in a situation. (Ghosh, 2008). organisational values are established rules and polices that each organization believes to be acceptable and logic, nonrecreational and practical. Organizational values also provide a basis for employee decision making in the workplace. In my professional biography, I sport always set my goals to develop the following core organizational values loyalty, reliability, sullen work and commitment.Fenton (2007) explains when organizations articulate their values, they take what are thought to be shared, stable, and deeply held beliefs and communicate them as standards to sharpen decisions and actions, often with the life of inc reasing productivity, improving efficiencies, and acting socially responsible. (Fenton, 2007). Findings in a Deloitte and Touche morality and piece of work survey also reveal the critically important influence that management and supervisors have in promoting ethical workplace behavior by all workers. (Verschoor, 2007).The above mentioned survey explains Management and behaveership have a huge responsibility in setting examples for their organizations and living the values they preach if they want to sustain a culture of ethics. (Verschoor, 2007) Similar to personal values, cultural values are deep-rooted since childhood. Cultural values are developed in social heritage, traditions and reflect psychological, religious or spiritual, and moral experiences. Cultural Values are closely related to personal values since they are developed from the individual tradition, heritage and origin.Cultural values differ in several take aims ethnicity, religion, organization. Different culture s interpret moral and values differently therefore, affect individual interactions in many level. The influence of cultural values has a significant impact on how people and organizations operate and make their decisions. Cultural values affect actions in both personal and organizational level Verschoor, C. (2007) survey also found that more than 91% of working adults are more likely to suffice ethically at work when they have a good balance between their job and their personal life.It was said that quality of an employees personal life strongly influences job satisfaction and related productivity, the 2007 Deloitte and Touche Ethics and Workplace survey shows that work-life balance also promotes ethical behavior in the (Verschoor, 2007) Values are energizing, make and inspiring. When people care passionate about something they will urge themselves with achievement Instilling and maintaining a values-oriented undertake to ethics in the workplace, together with giving greater atte ntion to related work-life balance issues, should remain at the top of the agenda of organizations.Employee fulfillment is essential to customer satisfaction, good quality, high productivity, low turnover, and other factors that lead to superior corporate financial performance (Verschoor, 2007) Employees make decisions in the workplace often reflecting value discretion and having ethical connotations. Corporate values are often used interchangeably with the concept of corporate culture. The customary paradigm is that corporations with strong positive cultures have institutionalized a set of corporate values. These values overhaul employees identify with the organization and develop a commitment to its goals (Ghosh, 2008).In conclusion, personal and cultural values have become core elements in today global economy. Organizations calculate and implement these core values with the intent to improve efficiency and productivity, and establish organizational values and standards to com municate to all employees. Personal and cultural values have a major effect in people lives and interactions, and clearly work performance. To be able to find a balance between organizational values and personal, cultural values is the solution to career fulfillment and life satisfaction.

Engage in Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings

1. Describe the duties and responsibilities of de waitr work part As a childminder I will be registered and inspected with Ofsted to en irrefutable(predicate) that I am able to demonstrate the quality and standards of dish out required by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage. My duty is to ensure that I provide proud quality childc ar, within a positive, safe, warm and happy environment where children feel welcome and comfortable. I am also to plan programs and prep are fly the coop based make forivities for the children, to enable them to learn and bring at their own pace with supervision as appropriate. . My duties also entail completion of relevant paperwork. All of the to a higher repose is to enable and ensure that parents are able to have peace of mind and to leave their children knowing that their welfare is paramount. Below is a list of my duties continued Prepare and provide healthy balanced meals for children and be certified of their individual dietary r equirements. Take the children that are in my full time care to childminding and forgathergroups. Provide breakfast and dinner for, take to school and collect from school altogether in all children that are in full-time development To keep back discipline of all children (whether in my care part-time or full-time), and encourage positive appearance Promote and maintain a high level of professionalism when carrying out my work To implement and update policies and procedures in line with ofsted guidance To ensure a safe environment for the children Carry out risk assessments on my home, and also of any places that we regularly visit. Review on a regular basis Be informed of the signs and symptoms of potential abuse and be aware of the current procedure in reporting it. Build and maintain good relations with hoi polloi involved with the childrens learning/lives. School/nursery teachers, parents make sure all equipment is safe and fit for purpose, as well(p)spring as a ge appropriate keep relevant records/paperwork in a confidential and safe place when communicating with parents and children, respect others confidentiality all accidents are recorded and reported where necessary Ensure good hygiene standards are met Regularly replenish first aid box Regularly attend training and update qualifications, certificates at appropriate i. e First economic aid Ensure all paperwork in completed in a timely manner as directed by Ofsted Provide regular feedback to parents and children and also allow them to do the same in the form of questionnaires, daily discussions, daily reports etc . Explain expectations about my own work component part as expressed in relevant standards Expectations of me within my work role are to provide a warm, caring, fun and friendly environment for the children to come to, to provide them with the ability to learn and develop at their own pace and to guide them were appropriate. To be reliable and make sure that their safet y is paramount non merely within my setting precisely at all times when they are in my care, also in their everyday lifes, for example if I suspect any form of abuse to act upon my suspicions in the appropriate way by following my policies and procedures. As well as this I must be registered with Ofsted and outfit the requirements set out by them which include having an enhanced CRB check, having a valid Pediatric First Aid certificate, to have attended and completed the Barnet Council Childminding Course. I am also expected to meet the standards of the EYFS ( primal years buttocks stage) as part of this I am required to keep detailed records of the children and parents personal details including tweak contacts, any special(a) needs or requirements, accidents, attendance, risk assessments, observation of the children to track their development and follow the fabric set out by EYFS.Another expectation of me is to follow the Every Child Matters initiative and its 5 outcomes Be healthy Be safe Enjoy and achieve Make a positive contribution extend to economic well cosmos SC33 Promote equivalence and inclusion in health, fond care or children and puppylike peoples settings. 1. 1Explain what is meant by variety show, capableity and inclusion Diversity Diversity office differences. Such as, throng from different cultures live in my community, making it a diverse place to live. Diversity is the degree to which a GROUP (not a place) is non-uniform on a specified factor. An all-Black group has zero race diversity, but whitethorn have age diversity, or trainingal diversity. From wikiask Equality The importance of recognising different individual needs and of ensuring equality in terms of access, participation and benefits for all children and their families. It is therefore not about treating people the same inclusion body Inclusion means that all children peck attend the setting and benefit from the same experiences. For example children with disabilities are active participants, not just observers on the sidelines.Describe the potential effects of discrimination Discrimination whitethorn betide in a setting if people have stereotypical attitudes towards children who they believe may be suitable of doing nighthing or making assumptions about children because of who they are or the way they act. Discrimination against a child who may be disabled, may be seen as incapable of doing particular activities or participating within activities because of their disability. If a child has a disability be it physical or intellectual, it does not mean they are unsound to achieve the same as another child.According to Tina Bruce 2001 As early years workers, we are responsible for ensuring equal opportunities within the setting. There are many ways in which we can promote anti-discrimination pattern. We can do this by valuing diversity and respecting difference, including children with disabilities and avoiding bosss. This may effect children who are discriminated on as it could delay their development, the child may become less confident and show a lack of confidence within particular activities and they may be seen as labeled.Another cause of discrimination could be discrimination against gender. This type of discrimination may stereotype against children who play with particular activities that are commonly associated with their gender. For example, a boy maybe seen more habituated to play a physical activity like football or basketball and girls maybe seen more prone to dressing up as princesses and role play. According to Tassoni 2007 During their early years, children are developing sense of identity, egotism worth and self-asteem. They are learning how others see them and treat them.A boy that plays with ladys may be discriminated on because of his choice of interest, there may be assumptions as to why he is playing with them and not the footballs. This may affect the child as it may interrupt his learning, he may grow up with a view of himself as inferior (Tassoni 2007 pg154) and he may develop serious emotional and social problems later on in life e. g finding it hard to form relationships (Tassoni 2007pg154). The effects of discrimination against parents/carers and families could be discrimination against their holiness, sexuality, race and appearance. This type of discrimination could affect the children if they see that their parent/carers are being discriminated on, even if it is not through verbal communication it can still be seen through facial nerve expressions and body language, this may result in the child of the parents having behavioral problems within the setting, becoming distressed or even physical behavior. This sort of discrimination can affect practice within the setting . new(prenominal) effects of discrimination are isolation, possible exclusion, demoralization,Explain how inclusive practice promotes equality and supports diversity Inclusive practi ce is about the attitudes, approaches and strategies taken to ensure that people are not excluded or isolated. It means supporting diversity by accepting and welcoming peoples differences, and promoting equality by ensuring equal opportunities for all. In my role it is important to allow the children to have the same opportunities as any other child regardless of disabilities, race, religion etc. We do this buy having dolls f different colour/race, disabled dolls, aswell as fancy dress and books that are for both boys and girls that they are freely able to choice from and play with as and when they please. 2. 1Explain how legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and discrimination pay to your own role. Equality actuate 2010 brings unitedly all previous acts relating to equality and discrimination. this act enforces equality legislation on age, disability and health, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender status, and encourage compliance with the Human Rights exploit 1998.It applies to all organizations that provide a service to the public. This Act along with the EYFS requires my setting to put in practice policies and procedures to ensure children are case-hardened fairly and equally but according to their needs regardless of learning difficulties and disabilities, to have a positive attitude towards diversity and difference. I have an equal opportunities policy that I follow. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005 ensures that all children as well as those with disabilities are provided with the same first hand experiences and or opportunities as those that are non-disabled.According to this Act, the arrangements for the admission of disabled children are to prevent disabled children from being treated less favourably than other children in the setting, this means it would be illegal for a setting not to make sensible adjustments to accommodate those with disability. Within my setting all children are provided with the same opportunities despite learning ability, disability etc but it may alter slightly to adapt to the childs learning needs in an effective way so they are still included within the same activity.E. g at a counting activity some children may be asked to count to 20 and another child who is not as keen with numbers may still do the same activity but be asked to only count to 10, this depends on the childs learning ability. Implementation of statutory duties can be put in place here also to ensure equal opportunities within working practice. These duties postdate with the Race Relations Amended Act 2000, which requires workplaces to promote equality of opportunity, good relations between people f different racial groups and to eliminate unlawful racial discrimination both unto children and adults. Human Rights Act 2000The act was not designed specially to protect children but they are accorded the same mightilys as adults. This means they have the righ t to dignity, respect and fairness in the way they are treated Tassoni et al (2007), This act ensures that settings influence working practices by following the legislation to promote fair and just practice towards children, respecting wishes and promoting practices in accordance to the childs rights. E. a setting is not able to use corporal penalty even if a parent consents to it, because it is seen as degrading and a violation of a childs rights, it also makes sure that I as a childminder provide the children with food, clean water as well as a comfortable and clean setting, that I spot the signs of abuse and report them as well as involving the parents and children in decision making where possible. United Nations company on the rights of a child (UNCORO 1989 appreciate in the UK in 1991) These are the rights of a child under the age of 18 years. The childrens rights apply to boy or girls, their religion, if they are disabled or the familys diversities. There are children livi ng in exceptionally difficult situations and that such children need special consideration. Governments have a responsibility to take all available measures to make sure that all childrens rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. They also agree to followup their laws relating to children. This involves assessing Social Services, legal health and Educational systems, as well as levels of funding for these services.Governments are and then obliged to take all necessary steps to ensure that the minimum standards set by the Convention in these areas are being met. They must aid families protect childrens rights and create an environment where they can grow and reach their potential. There are over 40 specific rights below are some of them The right to play. The right to survival and development. What is best for the child? The right to be safe. The right to live in a loving and caring family environment or alternative care and to heev contact with both parents wheresoever possible. The right to speak up and have your opinions listened to and their views respected. Every child needs to be registered after birth. The right to a name, nationality, freedom of expression and access to information concerning them. The right to education, leisure, culture. Children have the right to know and live their own culture. Respect the rights and respect others. The right to privacy. If you have a disability you have rights for special help for you to participate, the right to health and health care and social security. To be healthy. Children have the right to access special education. The right to be educated. Children have the right to live life free from discrimination. EYFS 2008 has brought together all early years providers under one set of statutory guidelines, the aim was to improve the quality of care and education for children birth to end.It is statutory and that means that ALL registered early years providers MUST follow it, the purpose of makin g it statutory was to ensure all children were given the same opportunities for high quality care and education. If ever a parent wasnt happy with the way in which I worked or felt that I wasnt successfully providing a equal opportunity, diverse setting or there was discrimination taking place they could report it to OFSTED who are the regulatory body for childminders, they also make sure that a good level of work is always maintained, the enforce and inspect.

backsheesh mogul is the conversion of star skill into a useful form of vigor, such as using sophisticate turbines to make electricity, veermills for mechanical billet, wind pumps for wet pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships. A large wind off the beaten track(predicate)m whitethorn consist of several(prenominal) hundred individual wind turbines which are connected to the electric proponent transmission network. Offshore wind farms can harness more frequent and powerful winds than are available to shoot down-based installations and have less optical jolt on the landscape but construction costs are considerably higher.Small onshore wind facilities are used to provide electricity to isolated locations and utility companies increasingly buy back extravagance electricity produced by small domestic wind turbines. Although very consis 10t from year to year, wind power has significant variation everywhere shorter timescales. The in conditionittency of wind seldom creat es problems when used to supply up to 20% of total electricity demand, but as the proportion increases, a need to upgrade the grid, and a get down ability to supplant conventional production can occur.Power management techniques such as having excess capableness storage, dispatch able backing supplies (usually natural mishandle), storage such as pumped-storage hydroelectricity, exporting and importing power to neighboring areas or reducing demand when wind production is low, can greatly mitigate these problems. Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land Any set up on the environment are mostly less problematic than those from other power sources. As of 2010 wind muscle production was over 2. 5% of worldwide power, development at more than 25% per annum. The overall cost per unit of energy produced is similar to the cost for new coal and natural gas installations. Although wind power is a popular form of energy generation, the construction of wind farms is non universally welcomed. Fossil fuels are subsidized by many governments, and wind power and other forms of renewable energy are also often subsidized. For example a 2009 study by the Environmental Law shew assessed the size and structure of U. S. energy subsidies over the 20022008 periods. The study estimated that subsidies to fossil-fuel based sources amounted to approximately $72 billion over this period and subsidies to renewable fuel sources totaled $29 billion. In the United States, the federal government has stick out US$74 billion for energy subsidies to support R&D for thermonu profit power ($50 billion) and fossil fuels ($24 billion) from 1973 to 2003. (Energy subsidies are measures that keep prices for consumers below market levels or for producers above market levels, or reduce costs) During this same timeframe, renewable energy technologies and energy effici ency received a total of US$26 billion. It has been suggested that a subsidy shift would help to level the playing field and support growing energy sectors, namely solar power, wind power, and biofuels. History shows that no energy sector was developed without subsidies. consort to the International Energy Agency (IEA) (2011) energy subsidies artificially lower the price of energy paid by consumers, raise the price received by producers or lower the cost of production. Fossil fuels subsidies costs generally outweigh the benefits.Subsidies to renewables and low-carbon energy technologies can bring long-term economic and environmental benefits. In November 2011, an IEA report authorize Deploying Renewables 2011 said subsidies in green energy technologies that were non yet competitive are justified in order to give an incentive to investing into technologies with clear environmental and energy security benefits. The IEAs report disagreed with claims that renewable energy technologies are only viable through costly subsidies and not able to produce energy reliably to meet demand. In the US, the wind power industry has recently increased its lobbying efforts considerably, spending approximately $5 million in 2009 after years of relative obscurity in Washington. By comparison, the US nuclear industry alone spent over $650 million on its lobbying efforts and campaign contributions during a single ten year period ending in 2008. Following the 2011 Japanese nuclear accidents, Germanys federal government is work on a new plan for increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy commercialization, with a particular focus on offshore wind farms.Under the plan large wind turbines will be erected far away from the coastlines, where the wind blows more consistently than it does on land, and where the enormous turbines wont twainer the inhabitants. The plan aims to strike Germanys dependence on energy derived from coal and nuclear power plants. Commenting on the EUs 202 0 renewable energy target, Economist, professor Dieter Helm, is critical of how the costs of wind power are cited by lobbyists. Helm also says that the problem of sporadic supply will probably lead to another dash-for-gas or dash-for-coal inEurope, possibly with a negative impact on energy security. A House of Lords Select Committee report (2008) on renewable energy in the UK reported a concern over the prospective role of wind generated and other intermittent sources of electricity in the UK, in the absence of a break-through in electricity storage technology or the integration of the UK grid with that of continental Europe. Many wind power companies work with local communities to reduce environmental and other concerns associated with particular wind farms. In other cases there is direct community ownership of wind farm projects.Appropriate government consultation, planning and approval procedures also help to minimize environmental risks. Some may still object to wind farms but , according to The Australia Institute, their concerns should be weighed against the need to address the threats posed by humor change and the opinions of the broader community. In America, wind projects are reported to boost local tax bases, helping to pay for schools, roads and hospitals. Wind projects also revitalize the economy of rural communities by providing steady income to farmers and other landowners. In the UK, both the National Trust and the Campaign to Protect Rural England have expressed concerns about the effects on the rural landscape caused by inappropriately sited wind turbines and wind farms. Some wind farms have stimulate tourist attractions. The White lee Wind Farm Visitor Centre has an exhibition room, a skill hub, a cafe with a viewing deck and also a shop. It is run by the Glasgow erudition Centre. In Denmark, a loss-of-value scheme gives people the right to claim compensation for loss of value of their billet if it is caused by proximity to a wind turbin e.The loss must be at least 1% of the propertys value. There have been numerous reports of those living close to wind turbines suffering adverse health effects from noise, vibration and shadow flicker, and in 2009 New York Pediatrician, Dr. Nina Pierpont, claimed to have identified an effect for which she coined the term Wind Turbine Syndrome. An industry commissioned review of the current research on the possible health effects of wind turbine noise and vibration reported in 2010 that, the sound (including sub audible sound) is not unique, and does not pose a risk to human health.Although the sound may cause annoyance for some people, this in itself is not an adverse health effect. The findings of the report have, however, been questioned on a number of grounds including that the reviewing group did not include an epidemiologist, usually a given for assessing potential environmental health hazards, and that there was no clear description of the methods the researchers used to sea rch for available research, nor how they rated the quality of the research. In October 2010 The Society for Wind Vigilance held an world(prenominal) symposium concerning the subject.A study on wind farm noise published in 2012 by The US acres of Massachusetts reported that people are annoyed by sound from wind turbines at far lower sound levels than they are by noises from railroads, aircraft, or road traffic. The study set in motion the percentage of respondents who found noise levels highly annoying rose quickly as sound levels increased above about 37dbA (about the level of a conversation). Wind Power Is A very good resource for energy I think that everybody should use win power in the future
